This talk was aimed at ICU trainees who are just beginning their ICU call. In Ireland most of these folk will be anaesthesia as a primary background. I certainly would not see myself as an airway expert but do feel I’ve got myself to the stage of competence over the years. As a result, the lecture has little advice on laryngoscopy or advanced techniques and is mainly focused on logistics, physiology and human factors type issues.
There are several other lectures in this series recorded by other ICU doctors as part of a series for the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine in Ireland, organised by the excellent Carrie Murphy and Bryan Reidy.
